Today, I’m honored to introduce you to my partner and friends at Street of Walls, New York City-based Wall Street professionals whose mission is to teach aspiring financiers how to prepare for a competitive career in Investment Banking, Hedge Funds, and Private Equity.
Street of Walls Founder Michael tells us about his journey from a small Midwestern town to Wall Street. He candidly shares what it took to successfully land an investment banking job at a Top 9 firm, and a leading Hedge Fund firm with zero connections.
Whether you want to work on Wall Street, or learn how to break into an ultra-competitive job industry, we can learn a lot from Michael’s incredible story… hustlin’ like Jay Z.
Journey from the Midwest to Wall Street
by Michael, Founder of Street of Walls
How does one go from a small town in the Midwest to the skyscrapers of New York’s Wall Street?
The feat of attaining a Wall Street career is not as impossible as it may seem. Currently a hedge fund analyst at a major hedge fund in Manhattan, I started building my career in high school. A lot of what made my journey successful to Wall Street are the core Midwestern values I learned from childhood: integrity, hard work, and honesty.
I grew up in a small town in the Midwest where people didn’t pursue investment banking careers, and hardly ever left the midwest. I always grew up with the mentality that I could do anything I set my mind to, and this was no different than the journey to Wall Street.
